I think the startup is only one problem. There are games that check the CD Region from time2time during the game and the loading could be stopped.
do you know games that check the region during the game?
The Mega Cart just dealing with the start up problem i think and those games need to be patched... |

What?
I am unaware of any CD game that does not work with the Mega Cart.
Even if there are games that check the region mid-game (which I know of none that do) your console is running under a completely new bios, not just bypassing the start up sequence. |

In theory it's possible they could check the console's Version register and find out it's the wrong region and refuse to run. But I doubt any game does this. |

@Fab - I'm a bit confused here. First, you're claiming there are games that check the region more than once, then you ask if anyone knows if such games exist? If you have a particular title in mind, I'd like to know it. If I happen to own it, I'd be happy to test this.
Additional protections were uncommon back then, so I don't think such games exist. In the fifth generation consoles [those using discs, of course], I think the only one that used additional security was the PlayStation. LibCrypt aside, I know for a fact that there are games that would go back to check the disc bootcode several times [Japanese version of Dino Crisis being one example - Once it boots, it checks the region again after the Capcom logo loads].
Not even Saturn used additional checks, so it's highly unlikely that a Sega CD would. |

I think that MegaSWIV for mega drive does check for the region and also for the frequency 50/60 hz after the game over screen (or something like that)
Anyway, to play it you need to both have a region switch and a 50/60 hz switch on your console (or use a super mega key as I do)... |
