Hi guys.
I've just happened across this backup unit. I have the 24M version, but I'm not sure if it's able to read FAT disks or not. I tried making one but it refused to read it. I'm going to replace the drive and see if that fixes it or not.
In the meantime I'm trying to make a properly formatted disk and having no luck, can anyone help?
I downloaded the zip file from programmers heaven. I replaced the "debug.exe" with the one on my system to get past the DOS error, and I've tried creating a disk from the "ntmdos" batch file. It seemed to work ok, but now trying something like "isc mario.smc a:" gives me a "disk error 20". Additionally, doing a dir on a: gives me garbage that makes me think the formatting didn't work.
Any ideas on getting this up and running?
edit: I do have an EPROM burner, if I'm running an older BIOS, can I flash a new one that would read FAT and SMC directly? |

The Super Disk can read FAT formatted disks just fine. And it can read SMC-files as long as they are not splitted over two or more files. You should be able to write down the games with ISC aswell, but USB-disks doesn't seem to work good for that. I use and old Pentium with Windows 98 to do the work for that. |

Thanks sledge. I'll pick up a pair of new internal floppy drives today (one for the SDI and one for my PC) and see how it goes.
I wonder if setting up a virtual PC with Win98 would work for getting ISC to work? |

Ok, totally weird results!
Old floppy disk drive: will read a 720K disk I had lying around, will not read either of two different 1.44MB disks I had.
New floppy disk drive: will NOT read THE SAME 720K disk, and will only read one out of the two 1.44MB disks!
Guess these things are just picky. Now, I removed the deadly corroded battery inside. I was thinking about putting a AA-battery holder on the outside of this unit for the SRAM so it can be replaced. Now, will 2 AAs (3V) be enough? The datasheet for the SRAM chip says it can survive with 2V, and the original battery cluster in there was 3.6V. |

Last question, if I wanted to extend this to 32M, what restrictions are there on the chips I can use? The chips used in it are KM44C1000BJ-6. |

I'm not sure that the device understands 32M without a newer firmware, but I'm not sure... |

If its limited in memory it's likely that both an updated bios and ASIC or programmable logic chip are needed to actually be able to use it. Only the Game Doctor SF series seemed to come with less memory than they were often capable of utilizing. But generally other copiers seemed to need various hardware changes to support more memory.
So it's unlikely you can upgrade it to 32M unless you do some serious research on it or find someone that has or knows of an upgrade kit. |

I wasn't even aware they made a 24m version. A 32m upgrade is probably not feasible. |

hello there
I own a super disk interceptor and found a lot of interesting information here.
I wonder if someone could help me understand the way of getting one file in
2 disks. I read here that you cant do that with .smc files. tryed splitting with
ucon and snestool but didnt work. some of you said need to write in ISC... I
dont know what that means. If someone could explain, or there's another way, would be great.
thanks |

Sure no worries
I was surprised not to find those softs on Tototek as I recall Sledge posted them a while ago.
Do you own the early Superdisk with the same simple GUI as mine or the later more colorful version? |

True. And until recently they were accessible from my web page at algonet. But that server is now offline.
So good to see that others comes to rescue here |

Hi
I bought my Mega Disk Interceptor around 1994.
I use with my Sega Genesis - Megadrive.
Recently i wrote a simple program to copy the roms to disk using Windows.
It does not work with USB floppy drives. Also need to download a driver: fdrawcmd.sys.
My program:https://sites.google.com/site/tk90disk/ |
