Hi folks,

I like my GBA SP, and I like my Genesis, and so I hope you can understand my warm feelings towards Nomad...

But they are expensive. About 100$ + s&h on eBay...

So I'm curious, is it good? Or even great? Or suck ass all the way?

Thanks in advance for your help, comrades!

nomad is cool. runs 99% of the games md-pro works with it.
battery life sux ass. screen is nice but blurs more than the gba.
if you want you can hook it up to a tv. if you want to have a friend play there is a 2nd controller port on the bottom of the nomad.
you can share the tiny screen in 2 player game or use a real tv.
golden axe 2 is the only game i have the does not work right.
some thing to do with the controls. they had a list of 6 or so knowen games that did not work right.

my nomad saved me from having to watch american idol with my gf. i just sat on the couch and played phantasy star 4 Smile

It's great, but batteries don't last too long, so you'll end up getting an adapter and plugging it into the wall every time you want to play it.
I wouldn't pay $100 for a used one unless you really play Genesis games often.
But I know you would like the Nomad.
It is more of a convenience to own one so you can be able to play Genesis games in the car or anywhere int the house without having to hook up a bulky old Genesis system.
Luckily I got mine new, when the Genesis was going out of style, for $60.
With the MD-PRO card I play it even more now.
Good luck in finding a good deal on the Nomad. If you get one used, make sure both the battery-pack and power input work. Once I found one used, but it only worked using the battery pack.

YEs i confirm...
550mha batts = 2.5 hours with all settings to correct.
1100mha batts = 4 hours with headphones
1800mha batts = 5-6 hours with headphones
2400mha = ? 8hours?

In fact, these are my values i made playing all in one shot.
To bad there is no nomad 2:
-Bit smaller
-Bit faster cpu
-Better screen blur/quality and less power comsumtion (like 4*1800batts for 8hours).

If this system was released, i would buy it...

Very Happy Due to the arrival of genesis in a chip, i trust there will be something sooner or later (hope not a crap bootleg).

Someone already did that!!!! I dont have the URL right now, but i DID read about it, and saw some pics on digitpress

It was a portable genesis made with one of those genesis-on-a-chip. It looked very cool!

Yes, it was on www.benheck.com. If you click on videogames on the left and scroll down the page you'll see it.

I love using the MD-Pro cartridge with the Nomad! That's the first thing I've used it on. Mine was about $80 USD on ebay. I also got a few boring golf/football/sports games with it. I don't really play those. My Genesis/32X/Sega CD is packed in a box in the attic but I should probably give the 32X a spin with it since I've never tried that yet. The only problem is all my next-gen consoles have taken up the free A/V slots in my TV. Besides the Nomad is great to take to work when you get a "break" hehehe... Wink I beat Steel Empire two nights ago but it took me about half my shift since I kept having to leave it on pause every time I did my job duties. Ah, I love being a guard.

I don't like it because it only has A, B, and C buttons and has no A/V output connection or support for a 2nd controller. It's basically a poor-man's Nomad.

I've never actually used the 2nd controller port on my Nomad, b/c I figured it would be too unfair for me to yank the other joypad out of my friends' hands while playing lol! I'd have to use my 32X A/V cables to hook up the Nomad to my TV though. I rather like the stereo sound of the Sega CD as opposed to the simple white mono cable for the Genesis/Nomad/32X, however. Gotta love that 16 bit stereo sound. Cool

Genesis/Nomad/32X whatever all have stereo sound, your AV cable may not but they all do, except Genesis 1 doesn't output it through it's "AV out" DIN but the headphones are still stereo.

I use the same A/V cable that came with my SEGA CDX, on my Nomad to get stereo sound on the TV.
Sounds like jmrydholm is using the old cable with the Nomad.
