Hi Tomy,

I wrote you a couple times on this, but didn't hear back from you. I know you mentioned MSN is the best way to get a hold of you, but MSN does not work well on my computer (causes crashes).

I was wondering how I get the MGD1 software you rewrote to work with modern PCs. I was hoping you could email it to me.

Is it true that the software must be rewritten for each user's computer (processor speed)? I got a hold of the other person you sent the software to, but his version doesn't work on my PC (always gives a time out error). It almost works about 1 out of 100 tries, but then times out as the game starts to dump. If it matters, my PC is 3.066Ghz.

Hope you can still help! Thanks very much!

-Rob

rbudrick :

Sorry for the late. I'll help you for sure. Don't worry.
Yes, look like different speed PC have different result. Original mgd.exe only work on 286/386 PC. I rewrite it for windows.
The different between BUNG and my software is :
BUNG use delay function for time delay. It is no good.
Mine use internal clock, can delay in "ns".
So, normally my software can for all speed PC. But I think my software programming is not so good. Now, I need to update my software to accept speed setting from user. I think that's what you need. Please give me some time to update it.
Do you know how to use my software ? And do you know how to use mgd1 ?

Yeah, sounds about right. But yes, if you could make it a user setting, that would be very cool!

Sure, no problem. I have some prototype Sunsoft disks I'm borrowing from someone to dump for him, and a few don't dump well with FDSLoadr, so I wanted to try other methods. So, I'm excited to try MGD1 to do it. Very Happy

Yes...remember you mentioned one other customer of yours had your MGD1 software? Well, he randomly contacted me! It was a pretty good stroke of luck, since just that same week I had bought the MGD1. He told me how to use it. Very Happy He heard I was trying to dump some FDS disks and volunteered to help. He sent me versions 1.2 and 1.4, though I don't know what the differences are.

Hi Tomy,

I was thinking...since it may be a while before you are able to rewrite the software for the user to input their processor speed, would it be possible to get a version of it configured just for my machine in the meantime?

If you require an additional fee for the effort, I'm willing to consider that. Smile My Processor is a P4 3.067Ghz, by the way.

Hi Tomy,

Thank you very much for posting that! Unfortunately, I still can't get it to work. I get a Time Out Error every time. I tried it on Winodws XP and Windows 98 on my P4 3.067Ghz PC. The person that told me how to use it is quoted below. Maybe you could tell me if what he told me is accurate?

Quote:
1. The MGD1 is NOT connect to the PC
2. The MGD1 software is NOT running.
3. Start the MGD1 by giving it power. Do NOT insert a disk.
4. Start the MGD1 software. Do NOT click anything.
5. Connect the MGD1 to a the PC
6. The MGD1 should now have a "_" bar in the upper part of the 7-segment display. Important!
7. Press read FDS or write FDS
8. Insert a FDS disk
9. Smile That's it

One thing I noticed is that between steps 5 and 6 I must reset the machine by cutting the power on and off once. It does not automatically turn the top bar on.

Am I supposed to use WIn98, or is XP supposed to work? What mode is the parallel port supposed to be in? Anything else I should try? Thanks again!

I also want to try MGD1 software.

But before to do this, I will have to make MGD1 to PC cable.

I have some question about this cable.

1) D0-D7, C0-C3, S3-S7 What are they? any mark on MGD1 mainboard ?

2) I don't know how to connect Pin 1,14,16,17 of DB25.

Sorry for newbie question Smile

Can't answer 1) cuz I'm not at home right now, but as for #2, what you would get is one of those empty parralel prot shells you can open upd an wire as you wish. Or, you could cut a parallel cable in half and using a meter figure out which wire goes to which pin. Should be pretty easy.

EDIT: This may help. These are Tomy's pics from this thread:

Tomy, was this software based on the pclink software for use with MGD2 or did MGD1 have its own software? I started reverse engineering the MGD2 protocol but did not know if this was the same.
