I realise in order to use the adapter you need to plug it into a USB port AND a 25 pin 'parallel' port too.

As I currently only have a laptop functioning (therefore USB ports), does anyone know if it is possible to plug it into a usb port and a 'parallel' > usb port adapter instead?

Will this work?

It won't work, you'll need a PCMCIA parallel card or another computer.

Yeah, it will probably not work, because those usb>printer just handle a very basic "print" protocol via windows drivers.

Well, I never saw any usb>printer that would let you access to EPP mode directly.
It's a bit sad since the megacart software let you select any memory address for the port and uses XP-friendly protocols.

Sorry.

My DELL laptop has an "ExpressCard" slot which doesn't support PCMCIA cards.

Is it likely the similar 'ExpressCard' solution available below will work?

Is says it is an Enhanced Parrallel post (EPP)!

Express is the sucessor to PCMCIA. No one I know has tested these devices with such a card, but it should theoretically work. The only problem is that OSs older than XP will not support Express (afaik), as drivers were never written for it. So, beware when using some older devices and copiers that require you use an older OS. I believe that for the Megacart, it should be fine, though. No promises, however. You can be the world's guinea pig, heh heh.

The megacart let you choose the port to read/write to... in the .ini file... You must be sure that this card have a port simulation before buying.
Maybe you can get the booklet of this device to take a look.

True EPP would be nice... I wonder why they always say "IEE something" compliant, that's sounds like another cutted down protocol.

Yeah, I have no idea if it will work...

This is the response from the online retailer:
"this is a plug and play device it will not bee seen by older direct memory adress software"
Doesn't sound promising...

Yeah, I would say that Pretty much sums it up. You're probably going t have to find another older computer.
