I never even heard of it till I saw it on Ebay (and on Robb Web's copier collection site). I've heard of Magicom, Wildcard, UFO, Gamedoctor, ProFighter, and a variety of things that are knockoffs or these main ones, but this is one device I've NEVER heard of. Not sure if it is an original system or a knockoff of one of the main ones, but I can tell you I've never heard of it before except on http://home.clara.net/robwebb/backup/misc/miscgamars.html

I found it here on Ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/SNES-Gamars-Super-Disk-FC-301-Game-copier-and-back-up-/280640032641?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item4157730f81

(ebay pic uploaded to tinypic for posting here)

So yeah this is a RARE one!

I'd buy it, except I spent all my money on that UFO Superdrive I mentioned before. So I while I'd do anything to get my hands on this, it just ain't happening. Sad

The Gamars is not rare at all. In the Western world it is certainly lesser known than the other more common copiers, but in the far east it is very common.

Is it a clone or is it actually a different design?

I've never seen the inside of one, they also made the ALMA copier that I think was just an earlier version of the Gamars. The ALMAs maxed out at 32m I think. The UIs are entirely different than anything else out there and were probably the coolest looking IMO. From memory, I believe the Gamars upgradeable to 128m and could store multiple ROMs in memory much like the GDSF7. They are super common in Taiwan, much like the Bung units are in Hong Kong.

I have one of these, the interface is pretty decent, but IMO not as good as the one in the Wildcard DX. The Gamars logo that pops up when you boot the unit up is interesting

The unit matches the Super Famicom nicely, my unit will not store roms in memory.

It's an original design but I know at least 2 clones of it: The "Salyute"" and the "FR-402" which was actually only sold in Thailand and bundled with a SFC clone:

Is that SFC clone legit, or bootleg (I'm pretty sure the copier is illegal, but what about the SFC clone, is it Nintendo approved/licensed or not)?

Also LOLing at the category used for the copier on the site that Mr. Green pointed me to " Computers > Accessories > Keyboards, Mice & Input". I mean at least put it under video game accessories or something, not keyboards and mice. Oh wow, that's funny.

Actually the copier must be a licensed version from Gamars as it has a custom made GUI. The SFC clone is probaly not legit as unlike the Famicom and post 2003 NOAC clones, the patent hadn't expired when it was manufactured.
Family is an asian distributor that released a couple of pirate consoles in Thailand:
FR-102 and FR-202 are Famicom clones, FR-302 is a MD clone and FR-402 is a SFC clone.

I remember they advertised this copier in a major magazine back in the 90's (I think it was Gamepro or EGM). Very Nice indeed.

Are there any clone consoles of NES and/or SNES in existance that were produced by Nintendo-licensed 3rd party companies? (in other words, made with full Nintendo approval, in much the same way they license 3rd party companies like Capcom to make games)
Or are all 3rd party clones illegal bootlegs?

And by the copier being illegal I didn't mean if it was a bootleg of another copier, I meant I didn't believe it was either approved or licensed by Nintendo in any way whatsoever.
