Wrong, but somehow right. 
Y'see, I don't need to desolder from the flimsy battery pins to change the bram power source (though I did, once, to do this mod).
I don't even need to open the cartridge. 
Massive lifespan of batteries.
Easy to change.
Don't have to worry about whether the nasty coin-cell is leaking all over your pride and joy.

I desoldered the 3v CR2032 coin cell and soldered a length of wire to each of the terminals.
I then drilled 4 small holes in the cartridge case: 2 for the wires to come through and 2 to attach the 2xAAA battery box.
The battery box is held in place with foam double sided adhesive pads and a nylon tie-wrap.
The two wires were then soldered to the terminals of the battery box (be careful of polarity) and the wires were further secured with a hot glue gun inside the cartridge.
It's a solid mod.
Nice and easy. |

| How exactly did you desolder the original battery? Mine has a large IC, most likely a RAM chip on the other side of the battery. I'll probably just solder in a coin-holder inside the cart, as external batteries might accidentally get ejected, causing the saves to be lost. |

You can either desolder the battery 'legs' from the board (yes one of them has an IC covering them at the back, this is not a problem, heat it up and pull it out from the front) or chop the battery legs and solder your wires to them.
I suppose it depends on what battery box you choose.
The ones I used on my carts hold the batteries very securely.
In fact, you would have to throw the cart at the floor to make the batteries fall out.
Since this is not likely to happen, I think I'm safe. |

It's a simple thing to do if you can drill and solder, mate.
You can't really do anything wrong unless you get polarity mixed up. |

Why not just put the coin battery slot on the outside of the cart?
That sure is bulky.
