Hello so lately I've seen a bunch of stuff about Pro Fighters with the built in SSC port. I'm wondering if anyone knows how to build their own custom SSC. All I know about it is it has 4Mbit "flashROM" (isn't this flashRAM rather?) chip with four banks and it can hold a maximum of 4 1Mbit games, or it can use two banks for 2Mbit, or all 4 banks for 4Mbit games. I don't see any diagrams or schematics of the hardware itself anywhere.
I tried emailing Jeff Frohwein about it but I'm not sure if the email reached him yet. He might have had it working on the C3 who knows.
If it is electronically similar to the C3 custom MBC1 4Mbit cart maybe one of those can be plugged into the pro fighter or ssc parallel adapter to program but I have neither hardware to test. Plus the SSC was available probably only up til 1994 or 1995 and I built my C3 in 1998. The technology in flash chip may have changed by then.
Well if anyone knows how to get a good start on a project like this, let me know. I still have a couple 4M and a couple 16M C3 cards assembled somewhere. I can't seem to find the CCL SSC 4M cards for sale anywhere so I figure if it can be done, i'd try to make my own and acquire the proper hardware to see if I can program it.
It's just a project I thought up to maybe help people get more use out of their older CCL hardware. I know there's already plenty USB devices available. I'm more into the hardware side of this stuff lately.

| I've got an original GB SSC in my closet somewhere, I can't recall if it was 4Mbit or not. If it has screws, I can open it up and look at what it uses. |

cool, I'm thinking it might use one of those square shaped flashram chips like I was using for the C3 but not sure. I'm guessing they might have also made the circuit more complicated than what is in a typical MBC1 cart but no idea. Maybe take a high res photo of it and post it. I forgot if you are one of the guys who normally does that on here.
This was a real cool device set up in the mid 90s. I should've bought one at that time since it took quite a while before the MGD3 came out, let alone I built the C3 in 98 so I did without handhelds copier for a few years. Not that the roms were easy to come by anyway.

| I think at the time my main source for handheld ROMs was the NCS BBS, though I can't be sure. Somewhere I've got a hard drive with all the original images. |

There also exists a stand alone Super Smart Card that connects to a parallel port, and the flash cart works for gamegear and gameboy.
I have the add on cart for pro fighters, but no flash cart. My Pro Fighter X2 Turbo has the SSC reader built in, as does my Worldcom FX-64, which is a Pro Fighter clone. |

That's the one I have, though the cart is gameboy only. It came out before the combo GB/GG card did. |

Yeah I'm mainly interested in the gameboy cart as it is probably more common to find. Maybe later someone will show up with the GB/GG combo card.
Also I got a response from Jeff Frohwein and he says he doesn't have any info on these carts so that probably also means that his C3 stuff isn't written to program them.
