Hi,
If you want to use a backup unit intended for NTSC consoles on an unmodified PAL SNES, you can; you just need to replace the lockout chip.
This isn't as hard as it sounds. First, you need to get a PAL SNES lockout chip from a spare game cartridge. With a little practice, it's not too difficult to remove the chip using a soldering iron and desoldering braid.
Once you have the chip, open up your backup unit and remove the old NTSC-compatible chip. The chip is normally socketed, so you can use an IC extractor or small screwdriver.
For a Game Doctor SF 7, the lockout chip is at the top right of the circuit board picture at http://www.gamedoctor.us/
In that picture it is marked D1, but other markings are possible. Replace with the PAL lockout chip (make sure you insert it the right way around!) and fit everything back together. Keep the original chip in a safe place.
Some backup units have links which you can bridge so the on-board lockout chip is not used, instead the chip from the cartridge is used. That way the copier can be used with unmodified PAL or NTSC consoles, but you need a domestic cart in the slot. The GD SF 7 might have that ability; looking at the circuit board picture, there are two spaces for 0-ohm links next to the lockout chip. (Maybe the on-board lockout chip needs to be removed if the links are present???)
