The reason they get away with selling it on Ebay is because it has legitimate use for playing import games. I'm sure if someone advertised it there for playing backups the auction would be removed. Well technicly its illegal to copy a game (transfer it to someone else), but it is LEGAL to backup a game. Thus if they called it a backup device, someone could probably get away with it.
Besides it CAN let you play import games on your American version SNES. The cartridge slot on the top is a "universal" slot. And some also act as cheating devices as an extra feature. The only reason that backup devices have a bad reputation is the fact that SOME people have taken there backups and then post them online as "game ROMS" for the public to download. Nobody would really care if they had ONLY ever been used legally.
And JUST as true the other way, is that Swap Magic can be used to play illegal copies of games, just as much as to play legal imported games. This is because it defeats all of both the region coding and the copy protection coding. So I'm surprised that Swap Magic isn't seen as being "infamous" like the cartridge backup devices. |

No matter what words are used, I have often seen these kind of units pulled off ebay within minutes. I seriously think they did their research and certain, if not most units like this are known by the uper echelons of ebay and thus, those items don't last long. It does however, depend on the country where the seller is providing them. Many countries in Asia don't have the kinds of laws against these things like the USA, so they are (though very seldom) sold on ebay with not a problem. |

Thanks for the dissertation but "fair use" laws no longer apply in a post-DMCA America if the copyrighted work is encrypted (DVD movies) or copy protected (games). |

| It is hit or miss with ebay. EBay is where I found my 32m SMD along with a handful of other copiers. There are certain terms that are better than others for finding copiers hidden in listings. |

| Videogamer555, common sense does not apply to ebay. I had an auction pulled when I listed a SNES action replay MK3 and mentioned you could use it to play Imports. It's pretty clear they are retarded and don't know what they are doing. You can sell backup units on ebay as long as you don't use the wrong keywords. |
