|
|
Hi,
I've had this problem for a number of years now and was wondering if there is a fix. Yeah I know this isn't that great of a port and yeah I know I can load up Kawa-X on an XBOX and play it in its full original arcade glory. But I am just curious.
Anyway, after borrowing my friend's SWC DX 95 (1995 bios version), I noticed it has the same problem as my SWC DX 11/94 bios model. What happens is, at a random point in the game either playing for a long time or a short time, the game will completely lock up and force you to hard reset the console.
Speechles on efnet thinks it is a memory speed problem. He says that the RAM inside the SWC DX unit may not be fast enough to run this game without error.
Does anyone know of a patch? I looked through countless collections of roms, goodsnes, asked TWK of Anthrox, and a number of people and there seems to be no solution. I'm wondering if it was some obscure patch that was distributed on bbses after the game was released and did not manage to make it into anyone's rom collection.
Every version and variant of this rom exhibits the same problem. There are very few games that freeze this copier. I think Wild Guns might freeze on it as well and there was one really obscure racing game on Numbers Art of the Game #1 which I forgot the name of the title that I think locked up as well. But that's about it, every other game works perfectly fine. _________________ -amptor

I don't recall there ever being a patch for this game. It shouldn't be a fastrom issue because even the regular SWC can support fastrom games. If it was a memory speed issue I think you'd see weird glitches rather than just a hard lockup. I just loaded it on my old 24m SWC w/2.6 BIOS. I'll let it run for awhile and see what happens.
I take it you've tried downloading different versions of the ROM? |

amptor,
I have a Super Wild Card DX2 and loaded it just fine. Maybe it's your ROM. And I loaded it from my Art of the Game collection which I believe has every ROM verified so perhaps it is your ROM |

It's not about it loading the ROM or not. He said it locks up after an arbitrary time playing. Just getting it to load isn't the issue.
Not every game works on the AOG disks either, there are broken a couple broken ROMs on there. |

Well there were documents saying which roms were bad on the art of the game discs, wasn't very many maybe less than a handful.
I tried the rom from the art of the game, tried all roms from goodsnes, got in touch with people with the original scene release and tried that one. The game just loves to freeze up.
Also I do believe I was loading the rom with realtime save turned OFF every time.
I do find this problem very odd because apparantly the point in manufacturing a 24M unit in the first place was to be able to run this exact ROM. However those copiers were not SWC DX, they were Pro Fighter and SWC 24M units at the time.
One other thing is, I should try another deck. I can't remember if it froze on my other console or not. I believe that it may have froze on my older console as well though because I talked to TWK about this issue many many years ago while there still existed #gbc on efnet where he joined that day. That should have been before I purchased my newer SNES console. I should check my paypal history and see. _________________ -amptor |

I grabbed one of the warezed "hyper fighting" versions from the web and it ran for well over an hour, I played a few matches w/out issue. I'm at a loss for what your problem might be.
The protection schemes I recall were never random. I remember most would pop up a warning right away and lock you out of the game, or some were more creative with multiple in-game checks. |

yeah looks like I'll have to try the copier with power supply and if that fails I'll have to try my original deck as it could be the snes itself. I wonder what kind of power supply this uses, I've played it countless hours in donkey kong country, smw, etc etc without ever needing one. I bet it just uses a sega genesis one.
Ok I just played it for 5 mins or so and plugged in a radio shack variable transformer, set to 9V and it puts out 800mah. The game froze again on my second fight. Well it's almost 1am, so I'll try my other deck tomorrow. Gotta figure out where I put it, shouldn't be hard to find though because it is in the original snes box here somewhere. Probably next to my dreamcast box.
Maybe the power supply I'm using is insufficient I dunno, I have the genesis power supply around here somewhere and that one puts out 1200mah 9v core negative. I couldn't find information on if it is suppose to be core positive or negative but I think it might not matter on this unit in particular. I'm not sure. _________________ -amptor

| Did you try both the US and Japanese versions to see if both versions have this problem? Just curious. |

Yeah I tried every rom I could possibly find. I'll try my other snes tomorrow and see if that is the issue. _________________ -amptor |

| Polarity always matters w/DC, current only flows one way. All copiers are center negative. |

I built a C3 for GB/GBC and it has a part on it that switches the polarity if you plug in one without the correct polarity of the core. Not sure if any others are like that, but I've had other devices that were core negative only.
Well anyways I tried the game again with the power supply at 9V and it froze and then I switched it to 12V but this thing says it puts out 800mah, maybe that isn't enough? The game got graphics glitches on the cpu player and then it flashed out to a black screen and froze.
Maybe my SNES deck is bad or needs cleaning, so I'll try a different one next. _________________ -amptor |

Well the C3 isn't a mass produced copier, it's built a little smarter Voltage won't matter, I believe all copiers would have a regulator in there to drop the input voltage down to around 5v. I'd just try another SNES, I have one here that I got in a lot that is really flakey. Some real carts won't run on it and it's not an issue of dirt or not. It has a nice case that isn't yellowed so I'm keeping it around for that. The SNES is the only thing we haven't eliminated yet as an issue. |

Well I just pulled out my other SNES deck and it has exactly the same problem.
So the only thing I can think of that is left is the actual power supply that the SNES has and I don't think I have an extra one of those lying around. All other games do work fine on this system though besides the other two I mentioned earlier.
It's amazing two different swc dx units, two different snes decks and the same problem for a real old game that wasn't very popular by the time I purchased the unit since I think SSFII was already out. _________________ -amptor |
