Are there any known issues regarding Chrono Trigger and the Game Doctor SF7? One of the main reasons I wanted to use this think (Game Doctor) was to backup my save files in case the battery in my cartridges ever died. I have successfully backed up my Zelda save file, and can open it in an SNES emulator. However, when I tried the same thing with my Chrono Trigger cartridge, not only didn't it work (when I tried to use the save file in an emulator, it acted as if the save didn't exist at all), but it also erased the save on my cartridge. HOWEVER, I have been able to put a save I created using an emulator onto the cartridge.
I'm a little disappointed that I lost my save, but it just gives me a reason to play through the game again which I don't mind. However, a friend of mine would like me to back up his CT save in case his battery dies, and I don't want to risk erasing his too. Has anyone else had any problems with CT and the SF7?
Thanks in advance! |

| It should work fine. Maybe you hosed something up the first time? Easy way to find out would be to play until you save it. Try to back up the sram and see what happens. That way you haven't wasted hours of play. Simply backing it up shouldn't erase it by any means. Or just try to download the save you uploaded from the emu...same thing either way. |

I think I figured it out. Bare with me while I try to explain what I did (I'm not very good at explaining things...)
I have a Super Famicom (instead of an SNES because I prefer how it looks), with an adapter to play SNES games, so I don't have to carve up the SFC for it to accept SNES carts. Now, I play all my US SNES games using this thing, with a Super Mario Collection Japanese SFC cart in the back slot. When I plugged Chrono Trigger directly into the SF7 (without the adapter), it seems that something about the adapter (and the SFC cart maybe?) not being present messed up the save on the cart somehow. When I tried plugging the cartridge in with the adapter, I backed up the save fine, and the save on the cart itself didn't get erased.
Is there any logical reason why the adapter would mess this all up? Or why Zelda backed up fine without the adapter but CT didn't? (Even though I play both games through the adapter)
It all seems really weird to me... |
