Has anyone tried converting Game Gear or SMS ROMs to Mega Drive/Genesis format, for use with the MD-PRO (or any other equivalent copier)?
I've tried with GG2MD (http://www.zophar.net/utilities/download/gg2md.zip) but I just get a black screen after loading, not surprising since it apparently mangled the header pretty good.
Anyone else try? |

I used to use it when I first got my SMD to convert SMS games. All it does is add the appropriate SMD header to the (8-bit SMS/GG) ROM. This header puts the Magic Drive and console in Mark III (Master System) compatibility mode. Game Gear is practically an enhanced Master System so some GG games will sort of run with horribly derranged palettes. The programmer was a little deceptive about what this program does.
The ROMs output by the program will not work in MD-Pro, MD-Pro doesn't have a SMS mode like the SMD does. If it did, Dreamwriter still likely wouldn't understand the SMS flag in the header. This program is just a very rudimentary conversion tool. An equivalent function is also implemented in uCON64, IIRC "ucon64 -sms alex.sms -smd" |
