The MashMods has USB and a programmer that can dump cartridges. http://www.mash-mods.com/products/snes
However I don't see why you'd want this feature. Very few games aren't already dumped.
Also, there is no flash cartridge or copier capable of playing SuperFX games, or anything else besides normal cartridges with the sole expection of DSP1. The chances of this changing are slim.
Also, I don't see why you don't like the PowerPAK. Perhaps you don't understand what it is. It's a much better device than the Neo Flash SNES cartridge. |

COOL!!!!! What file format(s) does it write to (SMC, FIG, SWC, etc)? What file format(s) does it read from (SMC, FIG, SWC, etc)?

For legal reasons. If I own a game, I have the legal right to have a backup copy. However in my research on the legality of this issue, I found may NOT acquire my backup copy by downloading the ROM over the internet (technically it's not a backup of my cartridge, but rather a backup of someone else's cartridge of the same game). Legally speaking I must rip my OWN cartridge's ROM to own a legal backup of the game.

Why not? All they need is a SuperFX chip addon, in much the same way that they have DSP1 chip addons/adaptors (which are just expansion cards with a DSP1 chip on them) for a few copiers. Is this a technical issue for being unable to put a SuperFX chip into a copier addon/adaptor, or just lazy game-hacking-equipment manufacturers?

Because PowerPAK doesn't allow ripping. I explained my reason for doing my own ripping a couple paragraphs up. |

I would guess the software can handle the primary formats, SMC,SWC, FIG, etc. This question contradicts your point about legality. What does it matter if it supports these ROM formats if you plan to make your own backups with it? Please don't put up a fake front of legal crap. No one here cares if you download roms.
The reason DSP1 works is that the DSP1 chip "sits on the bus" with the cartridge. So you can easily attach the DSP1 to the system.
The SuperFX chip sits on the bus, but the cartridge ROM does not. The SuperFX chip has direct access to the cartridge ROM. When the host system (the snes cpu) reads cartridge memory, the Super FX is involved in responding to the request. Due to this configuration you can't just stick a SuperFX into the mix, certainly not one already in a cartridge. All chips besides DSP seem to follow this design.
The only way to support a Super FX or other chip in a copier would involve removing one from a cartridge and building it into a new copier, or building a new copier using a FPGA and reverse engineering the SuperFX or other chip.
Designing hardware like this is not easy. If it were easy, someone would have already done what you wanted.
PowerPAK doesn't allow ripping but as I already questioned, your motives are conflicting anyway. |
