No offense to www.supermagi.com of course. I posted my pictures to my website and left them pretty high res (1600x1200) Hope they are of some use.

I'm still looking for an external Floppy for mine (either official or homemade) if anyone is looking to sell. Thanks! Smile

PostPosted: Sat Jul 18, 2009 2:12 pm    Post subject: SMD800 Manual and SMD800 to pc / amiga parallel port Reply with quote

I understand this thread is a bit old but i was wondering if anyone has a copy of the SMD800 manual anywhere or could help me with setting the smd800 up...

It all look's simple but i think i may have a parallel port issue can anyone maybe help with that?

My Setup:
I have a super magic drive SMD800 with 16M and Magic Dos v-3.3c from 1992
I have no disk drive to test that but i have a parallel port cable connected to the IO port on the SMD800 and to my laptop running Linux and use a usb2 parallel port adapter using /dev/usb/lp0. The software i am using is ucon64 which i have compiled for use with usb parallel port and i have also tried using various windows apps i have found using wine...
To rule out the problem with the usb2parallel port i also tried a pcmcia parallel port adapter and i also tried ucon64 on my amiga 1200.

What Happens:
I'm not sure what exactly I'm suppose to do to load or save software but i have tried about every combination i can think of...

Turn mega drive on with and without cartridge start the software from amiga/pc but it just hangs, sometimes it says no cartridge found (on ucon64 on the pc) if im trying to save a cart... i have also tried bin and smd formats and have tried clicking run file... load file... save file... save data... etc etc on the mega drive before sending and receiving files from the pc/amiga....

I'm lost... please someone help?

Oh and i also taken the smd800 apart cleaned up the board and some bad solder points, replaced the battery and checked some things out with the multimeter and all seems cool with the board

again please help Sad

I'd bet the issue is with the usb lpt port. Not sure on the Amiga support...do you have a friend w/a PC that has a true parallel port? I think that's the only way to truly eliminate the port as being the issue.
